Workshop Scenario:

Please think of yourself in the following scenario as you complete this workshop.

You are a high school senior. College application deadlines are approaching, and your classmates and friends have no idea where to start. You participated in 24/7 Teach's Introduction to the College Application Process Workshop, and now you feel confident that you can explain the basics of the college application process to others.

Now, you will design a presentation to educate high school students on the essentials of the college admissions process.


Your Objective:

Your objective for today is to create a presentation for high school teens explaining the basics of the college admissions process.


Important Questions to Answer While Reading:

In order to be successful in this lesson, you must be able to answer these important questions.

  • What key information should a high student be aware of in order to navigate the college application process effectively?

  • What is an effective way to present this information so that a high school student understands the basics of the college application process?

College Application Process Project

Directions:

Create a presentation explaining the basics of the college application process to a high school student. Please include:

1.  The steps to completing the application

2.  The parts of the application that colleges value most

3.  Where to find college applications

4.  The types of deadlines, including the key deadlines that are different from the application

5.  The importance of standardized tests like the SAT/ACT for scholarships

6.  What steps students can take in their grade level

Project Steps:

Step 1: Select the grade level of the high school student that you want to present to.

Step 2: Review the information in the workshop. Review the lessons in this workshop. Identify the information you want to include in your presentation for someone who has no idea what the basics of the college application process is

Step 3: Create a rough draft. Outline your information and brainstorm your design. Your presentation should include visual aids, such as slides, images, or videos, to help explain the information.

Step 4: Create your presentation. Create a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation of what you’ve learned. Make sure the presentation is engaging and easy to follow. Ensure that the information is presented in a clear and concise manner.

Step 5: Practice your presentation. Practice the presentation to make sure you are comfortable and confident when presenting to a high school student. Make sure you have all the information ready for your presentation.

Step 6: Share your lesson with a student. In a clear and engaging manner, present your lesson to a high school student, answering any questions the audience may have.
